What are Publicly Accessible Toilets?

Publicly Accessible Toilets are all the toilets that the public can access without needing to be a customer. They include:

  • public toilets

  • toilets in train stations, bus stations, service / petrol stations, tube stations, ferry terminals, airports and other areas of the transport network.

  • shopping centre toilets

  • toilets in public buildings such as town halls, libraries, hospitals, museums, and leisure centres

  • toilets in private businesses where the business agrees that the public can use their toilets without having to buy anything. These are often part of Community Toilet Schemes (run by councils) and can include shops, cafes, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels and pubs.

“I worked extremely closely with Jo-Anne and Public Convenience to receive detailed, resourceful and practical consultation and guidance through the design, build and reconfiguration of the public toilets at Wellcome Collection.

Without their knowledge and expertise, it would have been very difficult to articulate to stakeholders the importance of the correct messaging and resources required. We now have an amazing facility, with a Changing Places and a with huge thanks to Public Convenience. I cannot thank them enough!”
